- Service: North Africa 1942, Pacific 1944-45. Kamikazed 30 Apr 1945 off Okinawa with 171 casualties. Shown here in her final configuration after repairs of kamikaze damage. During the Korean War she was placed in service, in reserve, but was not reactivated. In 1955 she was reclassified as a fleet minelayer MM-5 and later changed to MMF-5. Two sisterships were converted to vehicle landing ships (LSV) during construction with a large stern ramp instead of minelaying ports; see USS Catskill.
