- Service: Took part in Spanish Civil War. Calvi was among the first Italian submarines to patrol in Atlantic after Italy joined World War II. In autumn 1940 she changed based to Bordeaux. Sank one merchantman in Dec 1940 and then five merchantmen during a cruise to American waters from Mar to Apr 1942. Total score of 34,193 tons. Also participated in rescue of crew from German raider Atlantis in Dec 1941. Calvi was lost 15 Jul 1942 south of the Azores during a fight with HMS Lulworth (the former U.S.C.G. cutter Chelan) and other escorts of convoy S4.115. She was depth-charged to the surface, badly shot up, and then scuttled by her crew, 35 of whom were rescued.
