- Actions: Built originally as Goldenfels for Hansa Line. Commissioned 19 Dec 1939, sailed 11 Mar 1940. In voyage of 622 days, sank or captured 22 ships totalling 145,697 tons. 23 Nov 1941 sunk by British cruiser HMS Devonshire. Survivors rescued by supply ship Python, but she was deliberately scuttled 1 Dec 1941 when caught by cruiser HMS Dorsetshire. Survivors finally reached home after rescue by German and Italian submarines.
