Japanese surface vessels in the failed assault on Wake Island, 11 Dec 1941. Two Japanese destroyers, Hamikaze and Kisaragi (sister of Mutsuki) were sunk with only one survivor. This was the only amphibious assault repelled by either side during the Pacific war.
