Reclassified as an Antisubmarine Warfare Support Aircraft Carrier and redesignated CVS-36, 1 Aug 1953. Assigned to training duty with the Naval Air Training Station, Pensacola, FL, 21 Apr 1957. Sold for scrapping to Union Minerals & Alloys Corp, 28 Feb 1974. About 600 tons of her armor plate have been put to use at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory
