- Notes: Built for Union Pacific Railroad as SS Beaver. Purchased from the San Francisco & Portland Steamship Co., given the classification Id. No. 2302, and converted to a submarine tender at Mare Island Navy Yard. Classified 17 Jul 1920 as AS-5. During the 1920s served submarines in the Philippines, and in the 1930s at Pearl Harbor and the U.S. West Coast. In Nov 1940 transferred to the U.S. East Coast and served in the Atlantic Theater until transferred back to the Pacific in 1943 where she served until Feb 1944. Then based in San Diego as tender to training submarines. Converted to engine repair ship and redesignated ARG-19 on 25 Jun 1945. Served postwar on occupation duties in Japan until May 1946.
