- Service: Commanded throughout her career by Günther Prien. On 14 Oct 1939, the boat penetrated the British base at Scapa Flow and sank battleship HMS Royal Oak. Over 10 war patrols, she sank 31 ships for a total of 192,000 tons. Lost 7 Mar 1941 in the North Atlantic, probably sunk by British corvettes Arbutus and Camellia.
