- Notes: Final plan for a class of six battlecruisers (CC.1-6): Lexington, Constellation, Saratoga, Ranger, Constitution, and United States. An initial (1916) plan had 10-14in/50 in two twin and two triple turrets and 20-5in/51 for the secondary battery with seven small funnels. A revised (1917/18) plan altered to the present armament and reduced the number of funnels from seven to five. All six were laid down in 1920-21, but four were cancelled in Aug 1923 as a result of the Washington Naval Treaty. Two were allowed to complete as aircraft carriers: Lexington and Saratoga
