- Notes: Initial plan for a class of six battlecruisers (CC.1-6): Lexington, Constellation, Saratoga, Ranger, Constitution, and United States. A revised (1917/18) plan had 8-16in/50 in four twin turrets and 14-6in/53 for the secondary battery, while reducing the number of funnels from seven to five. A final plan (1919/20) retained this second armament but featured only two very large funnels. All six were laid down in 1920-21, but four were cancelled in Aug 1923 as a result of the Washington Naval Treaty. Two were allowed to complete as aircraft carriers: Lexington and Saratoga
