At the time of the transfer, their commander was future emperor T. Flavius Vespasianus. Roman historian Seutonius tells us that the Legion was immediately sent into battle when they arrived in Britain and would fight thirty battles for Vespasian against the Celts. The Legion would remain in Britain for well over a century where they served the great military commanders in Britain: Paulinus, Cerealis, Frontinus, and Agricola. During their extended tour in Britain, the Second Legion would participate in building the system of Roman roads throughout Britain as well as construction and defense of Hadrian's Wall and the Antoine Wall.
