At the great battle of Acre in 1291, the last of the Crusaders were fighting valiantly against the superior forces of the Mamluks. At one point in the battle, Guillaume de Beaujeu dropped his sword and walked away from the battle walls. His fellow knights called after him questioning his conduct. Beaujeu responded, "I am not running away, I am dead!" raising his arm to show his mortal wound after which he collapsed and died.
The Acre Battle ended the Crusaders' adventure in the Holy Lands.
