The Crequy family served the Dukes of Burgundy for several generations fighting both for and against the English during the Hundred Years War, depending on the position being taken by the Burgundian Dukes at the time.

Jean de Crequy's son Jean II who inherited the estates became one of the early members of the Knights of the Golden Fleece.
