Codrington evacuated the Crown Princess of the Netherlands from Ijmuiden and then, as leader of the 1st Destroyer Flotilla, conducted offshore patrols during the Dunkirk evacuation, including taking troops from the beaches. She was sunk by German bombers at Dover on 27 July. Greyhound and sisters Gallant, Grafton, and Grenade all participated in the evacuation, the latter two both being lost on 29 May -- the former to U-69 in the Channel and the latter to bombers at Dunkirk.
