Predreadnought USS Iowa was converted to a remote-controlled target ship in 1919 and used in bombing experiments off the Virginia Capes in 1921.. She was sunk by 14" gunfire from USS Mississippi during fleet battle practice off Panama, 23 Mar 1923.
