- Notes: Only SSGN completed and commissioned. Five originally scheduled; converted to nuclear from diesel propulsion during design. Designed as stable platform for launching Regulus missiles, she was not particularly fast or maneuverable. Reclassified as SSN 15 Aug 1965 to be used for experiments. In fact, she was used in intelligence gathering activities, including tapping Soviet undersea communications near their Pacific naval bases.
