- Notes: The Norfolk was conceived as the ideal postwar submarine killer, laid down as CLK-1 (hence the cruiser-like city name) but designation changed while building to destroyer leader (later frigate) DL-1. New 3"/70 enclosed mounts were planned, but only installed after completion with interim 3"/50's. Hull shape much like Atlanta class cruisers, she was too big to reproduce and a proposed sister was cancelled. Spent much of her career as a test ship, including for ASROC, which replaced her two stern Weapon Alfa mounts.
