- Notes: The first eight ships of the Charles F, Adams class were authorized as all-gun ASW destroyers (DD 952-959), then changed to guided missile ships and reclassified DDG 952-959 in Aug 1956, and then changed to DDG 2-9 in Jun 1957. Design based on an improved Forrest Sherman with a Tartar missile launching system in lieu of the aftermost 5" gun.
Three additional ships were built for Australia (US hull numbers DDG 25-27) and three for West Germany (DDG 28-30), including Lütjens.
