Escorted transports to Iceland and then joined WS-12X, the first American convoy to Singapore via Cape of Good Hope. After the 7 Dec Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, she departed the convoy at Capetown and returned to the US to join the 4th Fleet. She patrolled the South Atlantic between Brazil and Africa searching for German submarines and blockade runners until Apr 1944. She then began escorting newly constructed warships from Boston to the West Indies for shakedown, and then escorting convoys from New York to England and Ireland in Aug 1944. She went to Charleston for overhaul in Mar 1945 in preparation for assignment to the Pacific. However, hostilities ceased during her post-overhaul workup. She was assigned to experimental antiaircraft work and reclassified AG-127 on 17 Sep 1945. She served in that capacity for 5 years before decommissioning.
