- Service: Played an important role during the Battle of Midway, 4 Jun 1942, when she carried out several unsuccessful attacks, first on Japanese battleship Kirishima and then on a damaged aircraft carrier identified as Soryu but probably Kaga. Credited with sinking six vessels totaling 21,149 tons during 15 war patrols, including Japanese destroyer Yamakaze on 25 Jun 1942. Carried portion of Carlson's Marine Raiders on Makin Island Raid, 16-18 Aug 1942. Also landed scout troops on Attu during invasion of 11 May 1943.
