- Notes: Built as a flagship, Indianapolis was distinguishable from sister Portland by her extended forecastle abreast the forward smokestack. She transported President Franklin Roosevelt on several occasions and served extensively as Fifth Fleet flagship for Adm Spruance.
- Actions: Attu, Gilbert Is., Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Marianas, Palau, Iwo, Okinawa (Kamikaze 30 March 1945), Pacific Raids 1942-44. Sunk by I-58 on 30 Jul 1945 in the Philippine Sea four days after delivering parts (gun and bullet) of atomic bomb Little Boy to Tinian. Earned 10 Battle Stars.
