- Service: Arizona completed originally with cage masts and secondary battery of 22-5"/51 gins, later reduced with 4 and then 8-3" AA added. Major rebuild in 1928-31 with tripod masts, added torpedo blisters, and rearranged secondary and AA batteries, completely altered her appearance to configuration shown here. Shown here in Measure 1 Dark Grey System camouflage. Sunk in Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, 7 Dec 1941, when a bomb began an oil fire, set off her black powder (for catapult aircraft) magazine, and then exploded her forward main battery magazine. Final death toll was 1,103 officers and men. Never formally decommissioned, a memorial was erected over her sunken remains in 1962 and she remains a national shrine.
