- Notes: A multi-section large auxiliary floating drydock, with sections built at four different locations. Sections towed to Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides in two separate convoys, arriving in Sep and Oct 1943. On 2 Nov in the course of assembly, one of the sections sank, drowning 13 of her crew. By the end of 1943, she was a working drydock of eight sections as shown here. In Apr 1944 she became a full ten-section drydock. Disassembled in Apr 1945 and moved forward to Leyte Gulf, being reassembled in Sep 1945, and continuing repair work until Feb 1946. Placed in reserve at Pearl Harbor, she was reclassified AFDB-1. Reactivated for the Korean War and moved to Guam, being ready for duty in Mar 1952. Deactivated again in 1955, remaining in the Philippines. Five sections were moved to Subic Bay and placed in service again 17 Nov 1970. Renamed Artisan 7 Jun 1979. Placed out of service in Oct 1986. Two sections were reclassified IX-521 and IX-525 in the late 1990s.
