- Service: De Ruyter sailed for Far East 12 Jan 1937 to become flagship of Dutch East Indies forces. Patrolling 1939-1941 after outbreak of World War II in Europe. After Pearl Harbor, she provided cover to British convoys to Singapore. Became flagship of A.B.D.A. Command 2 Feb 1942. Led Allied forces at the Battle of the Java Sea 27 Feb 1942 when she was struck by torpedoes from Japanese cruiser Haguro and sank the next morning.
