- Service: Zuiho began construction as submarine tender Takasaki, but was converted on the stocks and completed as an aircraft carrier in Dec 1940. Light AA armament initially had only 8-25mm guns, but this was increased to 48 in 1943 and 68 in 1944; the flight deck was also extended to the bow, compared to sister Shoho. In action at the Philippines, Midway, Aleutians, Santa Cruz (damaged), Philippine Sea, and Cape Engagno, where she was sunk 25 Oct 1944 by American aircraft from USS Essex, Franklin, Lexington, Enterprise and San Jacinto.
