- Notes: Roma was the last Italian battleship to complete, but the shortage of fuel oil in the summer of 1942 meant she made no operational sorties. She was twice damaged by allied bombers at La Spezia in Jun 1943. When the Italian armistice was signed, she led the Italian fleet toward Malta for internment, but on 9 Sep 1943 in the Straits of Bonifacio, she was attacked by German bombers and hit by two radio-guided bombs, causing her to blow up in a huge explosion, sinking with heavy loss of life
