- Service: Home fleet and Atlantic escort 1939-40, In Jun 1940 she joined Force H and participated in the destruction of the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir on Jul 3. Took part in Operation Menace, the British naval attack on Dakar, in Sep 1940 during which she was torpedoed by the French submarine Bévéziers. Badly damaged, she received initial repairs at Freetown, and then was sent in 1941 for refit in the U.S.A. at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard under Lend-Lease. Eastern fleet 1942-43, Training ship 1944-45.
