Renown
originally had a secondary armament of 17-4 in. guns and 2-3 in. A.A. She had extensive refits in 1923-26 and 1936-39, during which her secondary armament was changed to the present configuration and her armor was increased to improve her defense against air and torpedo attack, but at the loss of some 3 knots in speed. During WW2 she served in the South Atlantic 1939, with Force "H" 1940-41, the Home fleet 1942-44, the Eastern fleet 1944, and in the East Indies 1945. She returned to home waters in March 1945, still the fastest capital ship in the Royal Navy.
