In company with HMS Rodney, participated in destruction of German battleship Bismarck 27 May 1941, firing 339 rounds of 14in. Provided cover for multiple PQ convoys to Russia in 1942; accidentally rammed and sank destroyer Punjabi 1 May. Gunfire support Jul 1943 for the invasion of Sicily. Escorted units of the surrendered Italian fleeet to Alexandria in Sep. Sailed for the Far East in late 1944. In Pacific part of British TF 57 during Okinawa campaign and participated with U.S. forces in bombardments of Japanese mainland Jul 1945. Postwar served in training role until laid up 1948. Scrapped 1957.
