- Notes: Escorted President Wilson on his return from the Versailles Peace Conference in early 1919. Became flagship of the newly organized Pacific Fleet in Jul 1919. After 12 years of peacetime maneuvers and foreign port visits, she was modernized and overhauled at the Philadelphia Navy Yard Mar 1931 - Jan 1933. Her turbo-electric plant was replaced by conventional geared turbines. Further upgrades to her anti-aircraft battery were made during World War II, to her final 1945 configuration. Neutrality Patrol Atlantic 1941, Attu, Gilbert Is., Kwajalein, Saipan, Guam, Lingayen (struck by kamikaze on bridge 6 Jan 1945 -- 31 dead, including her captain and a British Lt. Gen., and 87 wounded), Okinawa (struck by kamikaze 12 May 1945 -- 54 dead and 119 wounded).
