- Notes: Resembling a pleasure yacht more than a cruiser, Vesuvius was a lightly constructed test platform for the pneumatic dynamite guns. Although she was fast for her size, she was not very seaworthy with poor steering. She proved unable to control the range or direction of her guns, which were fixed in train and elevation, with any accuracy. Served as an experimental torpedo tender 1906-1921.
