Transported the remains of the American Unknown Soldier from France to Washington, DC, for burial on Veteran's Day, 11 Nov 1921, after a perilous 16-day passage through two hurricanes.
Reclassified again as IX-40 in Jun 1931 and thereafter maintained as a naval relic. Restored and maintained as naval shrine and museum at Philadelphia.
