- Service: This is a prototypical Genoese galley, decked out for a parade in celebration of the victory by the Fleet of the Holy League at the Battle of Lepanto, 7 October 1571. There were some 27 Genoese galleys present at the battle, the bulk of them in the Right Wing, which was led by the Genoese Gian Andrea Doria (great-nephew of the famous Andrea Doria).
Joseph Furttenbach was a substantial Genoa-based international merchant who operated between 1609 and 1617. He published Architectura Navalis and a dozen more books on the subjects of the art of building, architecture and various areas of art and science.
