Spirit of American incorporates some steel from the Twin Towers in her hull. The Staten Island Ferry service is free and runs 24 hours a day, carrying around 75,000 people per day on five ships. The distinctive profile of this class was adopted to replicate that of previous classes, but utilizing modern materials and drive systems. Though capable of carrying vehicles these vessels normally operate a 100% passenger service.
