- Service: Designed by Cox & Stephens for William L. Mellon of Pittsburgh, founder of Gulf Oil, and used by son Andrew W. Mellon when he was U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. Purchased by U.S. Navy 9 Dec 1941; renamed USS Azurlite 22 Dec 1941 and designated PY-22. Converted to naval use at Marine Basin Co., Inc., Brooklyn and placed in commission 16 Mar 1942. Assigned to Commander, Sea Forces, Hawaiian Sea Frontier, she was used for training, local escort duties and as a weather and air/sea rescue ship. Escorted two convoys to the Gilberts in 1944. Decommissioned 22 Jan 1946 and transferred to WSA for sale. Remained active to c.1986.
