- Service: Holland-America Line flagship, 1938-59. Maiden voyage 10 May 1938, Rotterdam - New York. Laid up at New York Sep 1939 due to outbreak of WWII. Cruising from New York in 1940 until German invasion of the Netherlands in May. Placed at disposal of British Ministry of Transport and refitted at Halifax as transport with accommodation for 6,700 troops.
Arrived at Amsterdam 26 Apr 1946 for first time after completion of war service. Overhauled and refitted by builders. First postwar voyage 29 Oct 1947. Hull color changed to grey in 1957. Sailed in Rotterdam-New York service until 1971, then solely as a cruise ship. Scrapped on Taiwan, 1974.
