Made one trooping voyage to Eritrea and Italian Somaliland in 1935. Transferred to Italian Line, 1 Jan 1937. Requisitioned for government service 2 Jun 1940 to begin conversion to troopship. Made ten trips to Libya in concert with sister ship Neptunia. The two were sunk together by British submarine HMS Upholder off Libya, 18 Sep 1941. Total of 384 lost out of 7,000 from both liners.
