Torpedoed 3 Apr 1941 by German submarine U 74 in the North Atlantic while escorting convoy, but managed to stay afloat; repairs lasted to Dec 1941. Troopship Jun 1943. Returned to Bibby Line Oct 1947. Rebuilt by Fairfield at 10,329 GRT, 115 first class passengers. Return to Liverpool-Rangoon service 1949. Sold to C. Itoh & Co, Osaka, for scrapping 1961; renamed Kannon Maru for final voyage to Japan.
