- Service: Built for British India Steam Navigation Co Ltd. for the Madras or Nagapatam-Singapore route. Requisitioned as troopship 1941 as shown here; trooped Bombay-Basra. In Jan 1942 she assisted at the evacuation of Singapore; thereafter trooping in the Eastern Mediterranean. Present at Sicily landings Jul 1943. Departed Oran for Bombay in convoy KMF26 with 2,000 US troops aboard; on 26 Nov 1943 she was struck by an Hs293 guided bomb launched from a German He177 aircraft of II/KG40; caught fire and sank; 1149 lost, 1083 survived.
