Renamed Caldera under American flag 1941, then renamed Perida. Taken over at Manilla in Jun 1941 for use as American troop transport, to be operated by American President Lines, with capacity of 1,605 men and 232,000 cu.ft. of cargo. Departed San Francisco 12 Feb 1942 for Brisbane and Noumea, the first of three round trips to the Southwest Pacific in 1942. After three weeks of repairs, she made one more trip to SWPac in early 1943, then participated in the invasion of Attu in Apr 1943 and made one more trip to the Aleutians. Returned to the SWPac in late 1943 and made four more trips through 1944 before major repairs at San Francisco in Feb 1945. Departed May for Pearl Harbor, Eniwetok, Ulithi, Manila and Leyte before returning in Aug 1945. Made two more round trips to Manila to bring troops home. Released from Army service Feb 1946 and renamed Marchen Maersk. Sold in 1951 to Polish Ocean Lines and renamed Przyjazn Narodow. Scrapped in 1971 at Haiphong.
