- Notes: Emperor Caligula decided to bring the 84-foot high obelisk that is displayed today in St. Peter's Square, to Rome from Egypt about the year 40 A.D. For this purpose he had a ship built with the capacity to transport the obelisk and its four-sided base (approximately 500 tons). Different theories about the method of transport have been made, this being one possible reconstruction.
