First D.V's appeared in June 1917, followed by the D.Va in early autumn, reaching peak deployments in Nov 1917 and Mar 1918, respectively. They were the most numerous of all Albatros types, with more than 1,500 serving on the western front, plus more in Italy and Palestine, and remaining in service until the Armistice. The type was flown by many of the leading German aces, including Goering, Hippel, Richtofen, and Schleich.
