- Notes: Designed as an interceptor replacement for the Hawker Hurricane, but achieved fame as a superb ground attack aircraft. The Typhoon Mk.IA was armed with twelve .303 cal MG, but the majority of the 3,330 aircraft produced were the Mk.IB with four 20 mm cannon. At D-Day the RAF had 26 Typhoon IB squadrons which played an important role in the breakout and pursuit across France in August 1944.
