Armored cruiser SMS Scharnhorst was the flagship of Admiral Graf von Spee at the Battle of the Falklands, 8 Dec 1914. The "pocket battleship" Admiral Graf Spee was damaged by British cruisers at the Battle of the River Plate, 13 Dec 1939 and scuttled four days later off Montevideo, Uruguay.
