On 10 Nov 1944, these three ships were all at Seeadler Harbor, Manus, in the Admiralty Islands when the ammunition ship USS Mount Hood (AE-11) exploded. Mindanao was moored only 350 yards away and had 180 crewmen killed or injured and suffered extensive damage. Piedmont suffered one fatality and minor damage and Argonne also suffered damage.
