- Notes: HMS Inflexible was built in response to the Italian Duilio. Her 16in 80t guns were the heaviest muzzle loading weapons ever carried on a British warship, and her armor the thickest. The guns were too long to be loaded from within the turret, so the guns had to be depressed into fixed armored glacis. She was a good sabot and maneuvered well. Originally brig rigged for 18,500 sq ft of sail, she was converted to a military rig in 1885. Her original secondary battery of 6-20pdr BL were replaced by 4in BL at the same time, and then in 1897 by 4.7in QFs as shown here. She was present at the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882, firing 88 rounds of 16in shell, and was the most heavily damaged of the British ships. She was sold for breakup in 1903.
